Thank you everyone

To all our speakers, supporters and all of you in the audience – thank you for helping make Ignite Bristol #5 another great success.

Our ten speakers gave a great show and from each of their talks themes of science, art and the self emerged. If you liked what they had to say, here are links for most of them for you find out more – the videos will be appearing over the next few weeks.

Ed Barnett – The Circle of Life
Joe Hoare – We don’t laugh because we’re happy. We’re happy because we laugh.
Alan Winfield – Dances with Robots
Dan Buzzo – Things to do in the digital afterlife when you’re dead.
Anthony Wood – Are humans evolving to have twins?
Declan Fleming – Clouds Suck
Martin Couzins – Cycle lanes. Designed not to be used.
Gill Nicol – Contemporary Art. Why Bother?
Michael Harratt – Art in Science. Fluorescence Microscopy
Julian Baggini – Are you an illusion?

Thanks to our hosts for the evening, Spike Island, who put on a great space for everyone to look around before, during and after the talks, and who ran two great bars as well as responding to every request with a solution.

Thanks to Prestige who turned up with hundreds of chairs and turned a vast empty room into a great auditorium. And thanks also to Riot Events whose audio equipment completed that transformation and helped our speakers’ voices match their slides on the giant screen.

Thanks, as ever, to the kinds folks at Films@59 who lent us the cameras to shoot the videos that Beeston Media and Oliver Kendall are even now working on. And thanks, of course, to our speaker turned paparazzo SimonSkies.

A special thanks to Andrew Kelly at the Bristol Festival of Ideas for helping us reach a wider audience by including us in the line up for this year’s festival.

Ignite Bristol will return in September when we will again be hosted by the excellent Tobacco Factory Theatre – we hope you’ll join us.
