Robots have a reputation for doing things the same every time – they’re the ultimate conservatives and that’s what we like about them. But if we are going to get them to do more than weld vehicles or clean floors we’ll need them to be a bit more flexible, a bit more like us. Alan Winfield came to explain how his project team are not simply giving their robots the ability to learn, they are looking to create robots that can create their own culture. And it all comes from allowing them to make mistakes…
