Joe Cainey – How (not) to win at roulette

To start our sixth event we chose a talk that touched on a real core Ignite value – a “”.

And boy, does know about his subject – a third year PhD student at the University of Bristol*, his chosen specialist subject is “Monte Carlo algorithms”, which are not an attempt for devising a new and innovative way of funding higher education, but a technique for using (pseudo) random numbers to answer questions about the world. And the question he was asking in his talk was whether or not someone was being entirely free with the truth…
