Joe Cainey – How (not) to win at roulette

To start our sixth event we chose a talk that touched on a real core Ignite value – a “How To“.

And boy, does Joe Cainey know about his subject – a third year PhD student at the University of Bristol*, his chosen specialist subject is “Monte Carlo algorithms”, which are not an attempt for devising a new and innovative way of funding higher education, but a technique for using (pseudo) random numbers to answer questions about the world. And the question he was asking in his talk was whether or not someone was being entirely free with the truth…

Ignite Bristol #6 was, as ever, made free by the generosity of our hosts the Tobacco Factory Theatre (and secured by the reliable thirst of our guests).

*and part-time zombie too it would seem – check his home page!
