Natalie Chan – Sign Language AsPerforming Art

The beauty of language is often remarked upon, usually heard but rarely is it seen. Natalie Chan travelled to our stage from Dorset to tell us how the Hong Kong Sign Language Musical Theatre gives hearing and speech impaired people a chance to express themselves in an interesting and unique way.

We know from experience it’s a good idea to go through slides with our speakers on the evening, just to make sure everything is going to be okay. However, when Natalie asked us if we could play music half way through her talk, we were stumped. We couldn’t do it. “Oh,” said Natalie without skipping a beat, “I’ll just sing it then.” And so she did. Cue one of our loudest audience reactions yet…
